Aquarium tanks come in a variety of shapes, each with their own ups and downs.
Rectangular Tanks
Your standard tank is a simple rectangular fish tank. Width, length and height are all determined by how many gallons the tank is and is the easiest to fit into a home. Since rectangular fish tanks are so common, it is easy to find or even make a stand for them. Rectangular tanks come in both glass and acrylic. Rectangular tanks are relatively easy to clean with a magnet.
Bow Front Tanks
Bow front tanks are tanks that arch out in the front, but have flats side and back, giving them the “bow” shape. Bow front tanks can be hard to move due to their weight imbalance at the front of the tank. Stands for bow front tanks are easy to acquire, but if you can’t find one, setting the tank on a large enough square or rectangular stand will work. Viewing fish in a bow front tank can be skewed because of the bow’s magnification. Cleaning a bow front is relatively easy, however magnets can only clean when placed at a certain angle. This is because of the shape of the bow. Having a glass scrubber helps when cleaning the tank.
Wave Tanks
. Wave tanks are one of the most unique looking tanks because of their shape. Much like a bow front, the Wave tank has an arc on the front that creates the “wave” shape. Weight distribution of the tank makes it difficult to carry without a second person. Stands are specially made for wave tanks, but setting the tank on a large enough square or rectangular stand will work. Cleaning a wavetank can be difficult because of its shape in relation to how the magnet sits. Having a glass scrubber helps when cleaning the tank
